Hi All
As the title suggests, my hair looks like straw! I have it cut regularly
but it still resembles dry, horrible scarecrow mess! it is also think hair so some products make my hair oily
Please can someone recommend a product that will leave my hair looking healthy.

Could you tell us a bit more about your hair? Is it bleached/permed/coloured? Do you wash it everyday? What are you currently using on it? Do you use styling products?0

HI
Its bleached blond, i usually dye it every 6 weeks! I know very bad.
I wash it every morning, and blow dry, usually straighten too.
I dont use anything on it, ive tried several products, but i find it then goes oily.
I know you're going to say stop dying it, but i dont want to be a brunette, please say there's some help as a fake blond ;-) (natural blond colour btw)0 -
I really know how you feel:( its so hit and miss then you find something that works and it stops working after a while, I would roll my eyes if I could;) As the previous poster said we really need to know a bit more about your hair to help as best we can but as a rough guide, products with silicone in them, usually dimethicone or similar sounding, mostly found in products that smooth or help straighten hair will make your hair heavy or more greasy quickly, dd finds this a lot and is now in love with the new Pantene shampoo and conditioner, aqua light which dosent have any silicone in it, it took her hair a couple of washes to get used to it. Different hair reacts to different things, I get straw like hair if I use protein based products, ususally products with keratein or similar sounding but others swear by these products, I like ones that say mositurising but again these often have silicone in them so I try to find ones with it quite far down the list of ingredients, the dark blue herbal essences is my fav atm but that could change any moment, hope that helps until you get round to putting more info up:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

I used ot bleach my hair regularly, and the only thing that did anything was the John Frieda Sheer Blonde range....it wasn't harsh enough to strip my hair again, and leaving the conditioner on for about 5 minutes really helped sort my hair out. I also used a serum to try and lock a bit more moisture in....and it worked, I didn't have straw hair!** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

I do it all because I'm scared.

Posted at the same time, I also dye my hair, every 3-4 weeks for me but I dye it dark, I wouldnt suggest you stop dying but I would suggest you stop straightening and try to blow dry it straight or maybe embrace your natural hair, easier said then done I know but could be worth persevering with, also something that makes a great difference to my hair is washing it only with conditioner for about a week or so every month, it seems to get it back on track if I'm having a dry time, I have had great recommendations of Ojon products, available from QVC and John Lewis, I have yet to try them but they might be worth considering - hth:)
eta - just remembered after posting on another thread it might be worth you buying a microfibre towel to use for your hair rather than an ordinary one, it drys hair quicker and dosent absorb all the moisture therefore leaving some in the hair shaft, they are in my local 99p shop atm if you have one near you:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
Do you dye your whole head every time you dye? Could you not just dye the roots? This is what I do now as my hair had become too strawlike and damaged. I also use a serum on the ends every day after washing it.0

Does it break and feel fragile? are the strands thinner then normal? you could try Aphogee Protein 2 step mask, smells yuck but does make a difference- just don't use it more then once in a 6-8 week period.
Failing that I'd recommend Phillip Kingsleys Elasticize, theres also an extreme version. Costs an arm and a leg but really makes a difference.
Others swear by Aussie 3 minute miracle but tbh its just not going to be strong enough for what you need, may help with frizz but not really with damage.
Another idea is Coconut oil- find in a supermarket near you! Its used for many reasons, a preshampoo: leave in for an hour before normal wash and condition. Another idea is a treatment: wash hair, leave in for 20 mins then rinse out. Or as a leave in: use a small amount all over your hair- just becareful not to over do it and weigh your hair down. You could try leaving it in overnight/the whole day depending on when your going to wash your hair. Tie back or plait if you need to do this in the day.
And another idea is Argan oil. Its got mixed reviews, also Moroccan oil- not used it myself, its either loved or hated, many say its mainly silicons which can help hair to look glossy but can dry out hair over time and if you stop using silicon your hair really shows this. Its a mixed deal!
Alternativly try a salon and ask them for advice? they could run a hair treatment or advise on cuts which suit the damage.0 -
Mine also looked like straw - until I discovered GHD straighteners. What a difference! Feels smooth, silky and looks so good. I use Nice n Easy colour with their tube of conditioner, which I make last for quite a few washes....my hair has never looked or been in better condition.0

Ask someone whose hair you like which hairdresser they go to and book an appointment and go and get some proper advice and get it done properly. There are far more options than dying your full head every six weeks and may not work out as expensive as you think.
If you are drying and straightening you need to use some products to protect your hair but your hair needs sorting first.
Hair is what people see first on you and in my opinion a good hairdresser is worth his/her weight in gold but you do need to be prepared to look after it.0 -

Be careful with that one
GHD are fantastic but do cause your hair damage (whatever you use as a leave in, it can minimise the damage but not prevent it). Any hot tools on your hair weather blow-dry or curling tongs, hot water or GHDs will cause damage, the hotter they get the more damage they cause and this means split ends, frizzier hair which takes longer to straighten/does not hold the style as well and eventually hair breakage and hair that falls out. Do you use your GHDs every day?
If your worried about damage you could try cutting down to one or two days a week and use a leave in conditioner (tbh it really doesn't matter too much which one you use, the more conditioning the better, most are just silicons anyway)- its still going to cause damage still but its less damage.0
