BT prices - WATCH OUT!!

Spoke to BT about the new charges coming in.
They offer you the chance to pay up front for a contract £113/year.
If you want this deal you have to sign up before Oct 29th. If you do not then you will go onto the regular increased monthly payment.
If you have another contract running (free weekend and evening in my case). This contract will stop and the new one will start.
If you have that other contract free of charge (free evening and weekend is normally £2.99/month, but I have it annually free of charge), you will have the free bit cancelled and will continue to pay (in my case £2.99/month).
If you sign up for the annual line rental contract you will have to make a minimum of 2 phone calls/month. If you do not make 2 calls/month they will charge you £1.50. So beware if you get your call bills from anyone other than BT (or if you are like me and don't use your BT phone at all, I have the line for my Broadband).
Watch out people. BT are having their cake, eating it and expecting you to do the washing up. Read the small print.

I really fail to see why anyone who: "get your call bills from anyone other than BT" and "don't use your BT phone at all" - should expect BT to provide them with all the infrastructure to provide a telephone line to their premises for NOTHING !
If you dislike BT that much, rent your line from someone else -
Then you will find that they will screw you far more than BT; as BT have strict legal constraints applied to them as regards what they can charge customers for. These constraints DO NOT apply to other line rental providers who can and do charge you for things that BT are just not allowed to.0 -
moonrakerz I think you misunderstand. Unless, of course, you can show me where I said I wanted my line to be provided free of charge.
I am not complaining about having to pay for a phone line into my house. I am not sugggesting anyone should get it for nothing.
What I am saying is that if you have a BT line, you pay BT for that line but you route your calls through a 3rd party, under this deal, BT will charge an additional £1.50/month (on top of the line rental you already pay them) if all your calls go through that 3rd party or if you make no calls at all (if you have a holiday home for example). To avoid this you must make 2 calls via BT rather than through the 3rd party every month.
I am aware of BT constraints and obligations. But they are like every business at the moment. Recession must mean price rises. They are also still BT, therefore there is a catch and some small print to watch out for. I was just pointing it out.
Now wind yer neck in.0 -
Ollsbols is spot on.
I've been with BT for my landline for 20yrs, and with PlusNet for Broadband since 2002. All calls except non-geographical calls (0845 + 0870) were made free with my inclusive 120mins VoIP calls. The non-geo calls made are through BT. All well and good until my quarterly bill dated Aug-2010.
Was charged £7.77 Minimum Calls Fee for BT Caller Display !!!
 First I've heard of this fee.
Why should I have to "avoid future charges, make 6 chargeable or inclusive calls per quarter or more with BT" ?!! I already pay BT £15.57 for Calling Features Pack and £38.37 for line rental !!! Grrr!
Now they've sent a letter, received Monday 22-Aug, advising that they're increasing the line rental from 1-Oct from £12.79 to £13.29 per month (£38.37 to £39.87 pq) and increasing call tariffs and set-up fees. Oh well done BT - increase your prices ready to hit your customers again when VAT goes up in the new year....
I was looking at other Home Phone providers and am loathed to move to a provider as bad or worse than BT. To Ollsbols, I was considering signing up for this Line Rental Saver Tariff that BT are offering but I'm still going to have this issue with the 2 calls pm / 6 calls pq aren't I ? Or maybe I should just switch to PlusNet for my Home Phone (though I don't get a paper bill....) ? Problem with that is that I'll lose the second phone number as part of the Call Sign feature - the phone number I give out to businesses.
Arrgh. I don't know what to do ! :undecided0
