Tom tom one XL - 'no maps found'

Options
Hi

Bought a new(refurbished) sat nav off ebay from Argos clearance and very disappointed to say that there is a problem. Been Trying to phone their (Argos clearance) support line most of today but either engaged or no answer.

Unit is a Tom tom XL Europe V2 with UK and western European maps. Wouldn't turn on when first received so charged battery for a couple of hours and then turned on. All booted OK but came up with message 'no maps found'. There doesn't seem to be much I can do as everything (battery, SD card) sealed in unit. Tried reset but same message comes up.

My knowledge on these devices is limited and it looks like the only option is to return for a refund. Hate to do this as need the Sat nav but have to get it working :-(

Does anyone know if there is anything that can be done to make the unit useable ?

Cheers

Rob

if you connect it as a usb device you should be able to see a maps folder

if the maps folder is missing then thats the problem

    Thanks for the replies Browntoa.

Viewed directories on laptop - no sign of a maps directory and less than 10% of the 1 gig SD card used.

Should I go through the onerous process of returning the unit to Argos clearance or would it be possible to download the missing data ?

    Cheers

You could download the latest map from the TomTom site, but you're looking at around £25 for it.

Install Tomtom Home 2 from Tomtoms website and connect your Satnav. It should detect the Satnav and tell you what maps are registered to it. From there, you should be able to download them again.
  • The UK and Ireland map is around 150MB.

If it's on your device, it should have it's own named folder, 'United_Kingdom_and_Republic_Of_Ireland.'

As Hammy says, install TomTom Home. You'll soon find out where you stand. Don't suppose there was an activation code in the box if it was a refurb unit?

    Thanks Guys

Three hours of loading/updating and backing up and now think I am in some sort of control :-)

    Help much appreciated.
