Strange problem with rechargeables

I find this very odd indeed!
I use rechargeable batteries (2000 mAh) for my digital camera. Suddenly they have stopped working - fully charged they started to run out of juice very quickly. Now, showing as well into the OK band on my Battery Tester, my camera says 'battery empty'. I take used ordinary batteries out of something else (also showing OK on the Battery Tester) and my camera works. I put the rechargeables into my battery toothbrush and they work!
So it looks as if my rechargeables and my camera have had a big falling out - but seriously what is it all about?

rechargables have a life and can only be recharged so many times once that life is reached they will display the characteristics your getting.
have all the batteries been used as a set? by this I mean if your camera uses 4 batteries and you have 2 sets have the same 4 batteries been used as a set everytime you have had them in the camera and never mixed with the other set.
I have found that keeping batteries in sets they last alot longer charge and discharge them all together so you dont get mixed charge levels. 1 dead battery in the set will make the rest look flat.
you could try discharging each battery compleatly run them down in the camera then connect each battery seperatly to a bulb and leave it on until it goes out due to no charge then charge all the batteries up as a set. I used to do this with my radio controled car to get the maximum performance out of the battery pack.0 -
