Otherwise how would they know you bought it in Asda?
Any proof of purchase (bank statement etc) should suffice.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

Yes, how do they know that you bought it, didn't get gifted it, it wasn't stolen etcThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

A lot of supermarkets have really tightened up their refund policies recently i guess due to the high level of fraud they encounter .
Why do you not have the receipt? Was it a gift, are you sure it was bought from asda???
You could try to appeal to their better nature....... but not going to be easy as they are quite within their rights to ask for proof of purchase to check it was bought from them in the first place and when it was bought0 -
MSE member sirmarcus will no doubt be along sometime soon with what he thinks is the head honcho at Asda's email address...ignore his post.0

Proof of purchase doesnt have to be a receipt when returning under your statutory rights (faulty/damaged) and it can be a bank/credit card statement.
But if you are returning based on the stores own policy, i believe they can in fact ask that a receipt is produced. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
If the product is still for sale you could buy a new one, take it home and replace it in the box with the faulty one and then take it back with the receipt.
