How long should agent take before he gets back re offer

Options
I put in an offer on a house last Friday and I haven't heard anything from the agent since. It was lower than the asking price but even so... Is this normal?

    Verbally or in writing?

    If you'd put something like

"This offer unless earlier withdrawn is open for verbal acceptance by 5pm today with
written acceptance reaching us no later than 5pm on the fifth working day following
the date of this offer and if not so accepted shall be deemed to be withdrawn"

in an offer letter, you wouldn't be hanging on tenterhooks at the moment.....

Its August and holiday season so there are a variety of reasons why someone hasn't got back to you and that can include waiting for other offers as a result of viewings.

Estate Agent should send you a letter notifying you of offer BUT if you are too pushy it sends a signal that you are desperate for house and may pay more.

I would wait until Friday morning and then call and make them aware you have looked at another couple of properties and while one with them is joint favourite you have other options if no response.

Don't be smart or scared just professional as IF you only offer the EA will want a sale rather than you buying elsewhere.

Thanks all. Well he rang me today to say that the higher bidders had fallen through and would I be prepared to go a bit higher. Said that my offer was as high as I would go as that's what I thought it was worth even though it is
    GORGEOUS
but you gotta cut off somewhere and be realistic about value. The owner is now going to take it off the market and do it up a bit more and sell it but I suspect house prices may have fallen by then.
