I am new to Geocaching and would like to purchase a GPS device with a mapping function that i can also download the waypoints and log my findings. I have used a satmap before but i could only manually type in the positions one at a time which was not what i wanted. Any ideas would be greatful

Have a look at the forums on www.geocaching.com0 -
I guess it depends on your budget. I've used a Garmin GPSmap for geocaching and found it very good, because you can enter coordinates on a PC and then transfer them to the handheld, rather than having to do it directly.
They also have larger touchscreen models (Dakota and Oregon series), but they certainly aren't cheap...0 -
Does the Garmin GPSmap have a os map on it or its it a compass telling you which way to go?0

The Oregon range are regarded as being the best for Geocaching I believe. They're not cheap though.
Do you have an iPhone or Android phone as there are very good apps available for them. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

Then go for an Android phone when your contract is due for renewal. There are so many to chose from these days, some even free with a new contract.0 -

A touch does not have the GPS so don't get one of those.0 -
An Android phone with c:geo will do a very good job for geocaching. Although it isn't approved by Groundspeak. They are planning on releasing an Android version of their iPhone app but it's been a long wait. You can get fairly cheap Android poens that would be good enough.
Something like a HTC Wildfire would probably do if the top end Android phones are too pricey. It's my problem, it's my problem

I have tried using the SATMAP Version 10 at home that i borrowed, apart from it wont link to my machine using Sync program as its not compatable missing windows vista system files but does not tell me which, so if i used other gps's i am worried this might be the same so will not be able to download the caches0
