Lost engagement ring

Hi All,
I wonder if you can help me.
I got engaged at the end of May 2010 and promptly ensured my ring. At the same time, my fiance and I purchased contents insurance for the rented flat we moved into in February 2010.
Thank goodness I insured the ring. Three weeks ago, I lost it whilst on my lunch break from work. I searched high and low for 4 hours but with no luck.
I have made a claim with my insurers. They called me yesterday and told me that if the claim is successful, they will replace the ring like for like (i.e. they won't give me cash but will get their private jeweller to make a ring that is of the exact same value and design as the one that was lost). That seems a fair and sensible thing to do.
However. My lovely fiance chose the ring himself and I had no say in the design. I love him dearly and the fact that he designed the ring himself. But I have been wanting to change it ever since I got it. Forgive the material streak in me (a girl only gets engaged once) but I wanted to make the diamond a bit bigger as it is relatively small.
Given that a new ring has to be made anyway, I feel now would be the perfect opportunity to do that. I was hoping that insurance would cover the value of that ring that was lost and I would add some of my own money to upgrade the diamond.
Second however. When the insurance company rang yesterday, they grilled me in order to ascertain whether my claim was fraudulent. It absolutely isn't and I have never made a claim before, but it doesn't look ideal that I lost my ring just 6 weeks or so after getting it insured, especially as I had not had contents insurance in previous rented accommodation. It looks a little 'convenient'.
So if the claim is accepted, I do not want to give the insurance company any grounds for thinking my claim is nefarious/suspicious - by asking if I can change the ring. But at the same time, I really don't want to pass up this opportunity to get the ring that I actually want.
Would I be foolish to broach the topic of changing the ring with the insurance company?

Firstly wait until the claim is authorised the main thing is to get you back to the position you were in prior to the loss which is exactly what insurance is for.
Once authorised assuming it is then the Jeweller appointed will be in contact anyway and at that point you can discuss upgrading the ring to one of a higher value and pay the Jeweller the difference. I cant see this being a problem and its something I did myself with a watch a few years ago.0 -

take the offer and run......
i think you would be very foolish to brooch the subject with the insurers as they were a bit suspicious anyways.
just wait and get a bigger diamond in the eternity ring

My wife lost the diamond out of her engagement ring. The insurance covered this loss and we then dealt with the jewelers to upgrade to a bigger diamond and change the design of the band itself. The jewelers were great and worked with my wife to select a style she liked (and one that would hopefulyl hold the diamond more securely). We paid the extra, it really was no problem.
