Help with My Landlord

Hi,

For the last 5-6 Years we hav had a problem with mice, we live in a Masonette(Flat) and the block is infested because of one of our neighbours who is old and untidy.

We recently had a baby boy and the problem has got worst in the last few weeks.

It's no coincdence that we now have fleas even though we dont own any pets, we got them roughly the same time last year when the mice got bad again, I believe this is because everyone in the block has cats and the mice transfer the fleas into our property. The mice have chewed my sons books, knawed out a 1 inch hole in his high chair and chewed cables on my computer and are begining to get very confident coming out during the day, this is causing my partner alot of distress and my son is covered in flea bites.

Can we claim compensation for damage caused from the housing office, They have said we need to claim from our neighbour.

Is the landlord responsible for the fleas(we spend £30 a year on treatment and still get bitten, not as bad though).

Is anything we can do????

Go to your local environmental health. It is highly unlikely the landlord could be held responsible for the fleas.

So they can have a breeding ground for fleas in their own flat?
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

    Agree with this!

Also some mouse traps baited with chocolate will catch them, the little devils love chocolate (seriously!)

Then plan B, a cat. Or even better, if you know of any dogs that have been bitten by a mouse, they're far more effective at hunting down the pesky rodents.

Ohh have they bred a new type of flea killing cat that has not been announced ?

Oh a serious note though, as the op say's there are already cats in the building I can't see how one more can help.

I would go for traps, chocolate does work but so does peanut butter and just fried bacon.

You could try a sonic pest thing but not sure how good they really are.

Poison if you are that way inclinded.

Or an old fasioned version..Mountin dew or some other nasty fizzy sweet pop in a coffee lid, horrible but it does mean less mice around.

As for fleas..I am afraid a flea bomb is maybe the only way forward now

Can you not get the landlord to get one of the pest companies in and look into sorting the problem once and for all ?

Ask the council what can be done about helping your neighbour as maybe they can not manage alone ?

  • Hiya, I agree with Freddie_snowbits try a cat. When we had trouble with fleas the vet reccommended using a prescribed flea treatement which would help kill the fleas as the fleas would jump from the carpets onto the animal and then die when they bit. The council may also provide a pest removal service if you ring them, they sent out someone too spray our house when we had trouble with fleas and they may provide rodent removals as well, its worth giving them a ring to find out.
    Hope this helps :)

(I wouldn't put up with a mice problem for 5 or 6 years!!)

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
