Clearing a drain

Options
Post 2/2

We are buying a hosue and the survey has identified some rubble in the front draina nd sold material and paper in the other. Survey suggests it has overflowed to path level recently. It isnt currently blocked but the visible debris needs clearning, does anyone have an idea of cost?

House buyers report or proper survey? HBR is usually CYA driven so is mostly useless.

You say the "front drain" and I presume you mean an inspection chamber (manhole). Does the outflow from another house enter the system at this chamber? Does the outflow from another house join the system upstream from the blocked chamber?

If the front drain is outside your boundary its the sewerage companies responsbility and at their cost.

How old is the house? If its pre 1937 then it may be a public sewer and therefore the sewerage companies responsibility even if on your land subject to answering questions about outflow.

If its post 1937 and on your land its a private sewer and your responsibility.

    Cheers
