After some advice on upgrading my RAM in my Acer laptop, I have noticed that they do to lots of memory for each size but what is the difference and which is better if any?

One is quicker memory PC4200 as opposed to PC2400. I would recommend matched pairs, you should be able to find out by looking at the current SODIMM in your laptop

Thanks
So I presume if it has 256mb of PC4200 it is better go go for the same rather than the 2400?0 -
Correct, iirc if you put in the slower memory then the quicker memory runs at the speed of the slowest, thus affecting performance.553780080

Say for instance my laptop has the slower memory in it and i buy the faster one up upgrade will it run as efficiently as running two lots of slower memory rather than a fast and slow one?0 -
Just checked my laptop and it is running
256mb RAM DDR2 SDRAM PC2-4300 (266mhz)
So am I better getting the 4200 as it is nearer my number and I don't think crucial do a 4300 RAM0 -
Any ideas which I am better getting considering my laptop has PC2-4300 RAM and my two options are as follows
PC2-2400
PC2-4200
If I purchase before the end of the month I can get 5% off their normal prices and 10% cashback via Quidco0 -
I would say the 4200 so that the system runs at that speed when accessing RAM.0

Definatley go for the PC2-4200, if you go for the 2400 your current chip will start operating at that speed :beer:553780080
