Broadband

Hello i'm moving into my new house with 3 others in a few days. I found out there is currently no BT line in our house. After researching a bit i'm led to believe that for any ASDL broadband i need a BT line first that will cost about £130 plus about £11 a month? thats before broadband. Another choice would be cable, but i don't think its availible in the NE2 3 area. Am i right in saying all this? Any ideas of how to get the cheapest broadband 8meg unlimited downloads. Thanks for any help.

  • Check your postcode at the NTL site here: http://www.ntl.co.uk/

Does your house have a phone line at all? It should be cheap to switch back to BT if it has.

NTL charge £34.99 for unlimited 10Mb broadband, and £24.99 for unlimited 4Mb broadband.
  • I just advised NTL that i was about to leave them for TalkTalk, no battle, offered me the same deal but 10mb unlimited broadband & unlimited UK 01/02 calls for 21quid a month.

If there is no line in your house, it may be worth trying to do a deal with your LL, as a LL I would not expect you to pay the whole cost after all you will only benefit from it for one year (probably)

    Worth a try

  • Cheers guys. There isn't a phone line at all, so yes i think i'm going to have to try and get the landlord to pay for the BT line to be fitted. Thanks again

My daughters house is also having a phone installed as well which only accepts incoming calls, very useful. There will nearly always be someone in to take messages and also worried parents can pester you.

Just an idea if you are having a BT line put in

There is already a line in our house, how do you go about only getting incoming calls? Thanks.

  • I went with NTL.

Were getting digital tv + 4mb bb unlimted for 27 a month with free installation, think one of the girls wants a landline though so not sure how much extra it is.

The other option is 3G, which is a wireless signal available in most city centres.

    £19.99 a month for a 384kb connection, 2gb limited.

  • That's incredibly poor value for money.

It is the landlord doing it for them because they are having wireless internet.

Must be worth asking BT about
