HDTV - Xbox 360 help please

Options
I've downloaded some HD movies and put them onto a memory stick to watch on my xbox 360, but the picture quality is very poor, so I tried streaming it through TVersity, but it's still poor quality.

I have my xbox connected to my full HD TV with a HDMI cable and have the xbox output set to 1080p.

Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Are these legitimate or from a dodgy source? If they're over an hour and smaller than 5GB in size, then you'll get poor quality. You cannot polish a turd as the saying goes.

They're from a torrent site and they're less than 4GB, so I'm guessing that's the problem.

If I want to watch legit movies in HD, do I need a bluray player? I've been looking at bluray players and upscaling dvd players, but I really haven't got a clue what will work and what won't.

Jaqu79 - this is all about compression. Blu-Ray discs are compressed, Digital TV (inc HD) is compressed, MP3s are compressed, DAB radio is compressed, films off the internet are compressed, digital photos (JPGs) are compressed, you get the idea!!
Question is how much is it compressed? For films, DVD's aren't compressed that much, neither are Blu-Rays. Respectively, even though SDTV is around 500 vertical lines, same as DVD, it's been squashed more and more detail's lost, and 1080i Blu-Ray (for argument) vs 1080i HDTV broadcast - same number of lines and pixels, but the TV signal has been compressed more, and may not look as good. The Blu-Ray has a higher bit-rate. To compare with your 4gb file, a blu-ray film would be, depending on length, say, 10-15GB?

I believe the xbox can stream live movies in HD via their rental service?

If you want to watch legit movies.. buy a blu-ray player (check out review sites like whathifi) and buy blu-rays (I tend to buy the "2 for £..." offers from HMV or good deals from websites).
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!

Everything other than DVD and HD-DVD/Blu-ray direct rips are of poor quality. A mate of mine showed some thing he'd downloaded. It was several GB in size yet the compression was massively obvious. Quite how such a person can spend £2k on a 52" TV then claim to be an audiophile whilst viewing poor quality rubbish I do not know.
