Join your local NCT teagroup. It's been a lifeline to me, and Henry and I have both made some lovely friends through it.
The best piece of advice my health visitor has given me is that if it's not a problem for you, or baby, then it's not a problem. This applies to feeding, sleep, everything really.
I totally agree with Tigs- internet shopping is your friend.
Not very mother earth-esque but my iPod Touch has been my best breastfeeding buddy. In the early days (well, the first four months) when my baby fed every two hours I could surf the net while he fed and I also had something to amuse me while he napped on me!
Also I am sure that learning to breastfeed lying down helped me keep breastfeeding. Don't underestimate the joy of being able to sleep while baby feeds!
You don't stop being you just because you have a baby. Don't feel guilty for sometimes wanting to go shopping on your own, have a bath on your own, even go back to work! By being yourself you will be the best mummy to your baby.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator

lansinoh is the best thing in the world!
vaseline on the bum for the first few days makes cleaning off meconium so much easier!
Yes it IS meant to do that/look like that/smell like that!
If you are going out.. dress yourself on the way out the door.. oherwise.. you look good in milky sick!
The cat will not suffocate the baby.. though the baby may make the cat bald! Cat worrying is not an offence unlike sheep worrying.
Babies don't need bathing daily.. so long as the carpet fluff still sticks they are good for another day.
Having baby in a sling does not cause scoliosis, suffocation or a clingy baby!
If someone offers to do something.. let them... preparing veg for dinner, loading dw/washing pots, hanging out/folding washing etc..
And don't play hostess.. they want to cudde your baby.. payment is a cuppa.. guests get the kettle on!!!
And when people ring to ask if they can come round.. ask them to bring bread/milk/biscuits etcLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

On the same topic, eat dried apricots and drink plenty of water makes the whole 'event' much less of a worry. Rather than the white bread toast and tea that I lived on the first time round
Remember that labour breathing? You better had you will need it for the piles/ latching on/ afterpains etc....
Babies need love, food, clothes and somewhere to sleep, everything else is a bonus so don't sweat it.
Do whatever it takes to get you through the day (stay in your PJ's, stay in bed, live on biscuits and dairy milk, feed baby laying down, etc etc) and DON'T feel guilty about it!
For every cool calm collected yummy mummy you meet there will be 10000's who struggle more than you do (and said yummy mummy struggles too, she is just a good actress
, and she prob thinks you are coping so well and she isn't!)
Everyone else feels this tired and overwhelmed too, but like I said before some people are just better actresses.
Don't compare babies they are all different and do things at different times.
feel confident in your parenting decisions, babies are like dogs- they smell fear!!
When you are awake at 3am with a screaming baby, you are not alone mums all around the world are awake too with their screaming babies.
Embrace that maternal guilt and accept you are doing your best, because you will have to live with it for the rest of your life.0 -
