Admiral Car Insurance

So why are they so cheap? Is there a catch?

Even with the full 12 months policy instead of the 10 months speeded up NCB policy - they are the cheapest using comparison websites. Their sister companies are also cheap (Elephant etc).

I've looked everywhere. Here is what I have gathered:
+ Great if you don't make a claim
+ Great to earn NCB quicker
- Poor customer service
- Poor resultant outcome of claims (cash payout less, easier to write off a car, force you go to 50/50 on liability etc)
+- Half and half say that the NCB earned quicker can actually be used elswhere (admiral will give you documentation that you have earned this without it saying it was 10 months), some say it won't work.
- Another downside - they will automatically renew the policy after 12 months unless you tell them otherwise (they use the same details as the previous payment)

I've read the policy document and it doesn't seem bad. Just seems like the general t&c's for car insurance out there.

If I take the quote from Admiral, does anyone know if there are any insurance companies that might meet or beat the quote?

I found them useful when I made a claim on another persons insurance (they hit me). No problems with customer service. Sent renewal that was lower than the first year unlike previous insurance companies who raised it..

+ Great if you don't make a claim Any reasons why?
+ Great to earn NCB quicker
    - Poor customer service Once again, any reason why?
    - Poor resultant outcome of claims (cash payout less, easier to write off a car, force you go to 50/50 on liability etc) Dependant on circumstances, very hard to say that the above is set in stone
+- Half and half say that the NCB earned quicker can actually be used elswhere (admiral will give you documentation that you have earned this without it saying it was 10 months), some say it won't work. I had no issues with giving my 10 month NCB policy to another insurer?
    - Another downside - they will automatically renew the policy after 12 months unless you tell them otherwise (they use the same details as the previous payment) Don't all insurers? You know when your insurance is due, on the off chance it didn't auto renew and you forgot and got pulled by the police, no doubt you'd complain it didn't automatically renew?

whatever i've said, i've found through a google search. my findings weren't enough to persuade me yet thus my post here.

admiral are the cheapest quote for me. the nearest quote that wasn't or isn't part of admiral is double the price.
  • Admiral were the cheapest for me for 2 years. Then it nearly doubled and has never came down again.

But a lot of what is put on the internet is negative spin on a situation

Like I said, I never had an issue with my policy with them :S
  • Trust me - after still trying to resolve an accident from 2005 - I wouldn't touch them.

Bell their sister company is good for me, the accident i had was resolved quickly and the process was easy. They are as cheap as admiral and will offer to beat admiral quotes

i've just changed the location of where my car will be parked overnight from garage to driveway and it's cheaper by £50!!! any explanation seeing as my garage would be safer from theft or malicious damage.
