Products to avoid

Aldi 'Specially selected British Thick Cut Maris Piper Oven Chips'. Some were almost raw, others ended up little better than boiled potatoes covered with grease. Absolutely revolting.

Youngs '100% Fillet 16 Fish Fingers'. These have very little fish inside and contain an extremely large amount of water. So much in fact, that when heated up, they fall into slush! Poor quality and poor value for money.

    Some were almost raw?

Didn't you cook them for long enough?

Re fish fingers, most of them have about 50% fish so not worth it - make your own or buy bigger fillets and cut up fo rthe kids - you get a better ratio of fiish to batter then.

    It's only a game

You don't buy the chips cooked. If they are raw it means you haven't cooked them enough.

    OP may I suggest http://www.deliaonline.com/how-to-cook
easy instructions for a simpleton who cant cook an oven chip :p

Come on its not bloody hard, heat the oven, place on a tray, put in oven untill golden brown and crispy, it does sound like you didnt cook them right, they are only raw if they aint cooked, they are like boiled potatoes if they are part cooked.

    Really some people :rotfl:

Sounds like a disasterous supper, best to stick to the chipper if your cooking ability doesn't stretch to following simple instructions.

It could be that the oven was not hot enough.
For any recipe that takes 30 minutes or less, you will always need to pre-heat the oven, even if it is a fan oven. The chips themselves would need to be spread evenly over a baking sheet or they will not cook correctly.
For myself I am an optimist - there does not seem to be much use being anything else.

Actually they are supposed to be already par cooked. And yes, they were prepared according to the instructions. The problem is inconsistency at the factory (and I suspect, different types of potato).
