Sky / BT advice please

Hi
Mum is currently (only just) still with Sky for her TV, BoadBand and Telephone (including line rental). She wants to cancel Sky tv and more than likely BroadBand (unless she can get a good deal). She was hoping to move to BT but apparantly they will charge her £128.00 to re-connect. She now is wondering if she is better off staying with Sky for the telephone (and possibly BroadBand) but doesn't think Sky will allow this if she gets rid of her Sky tv? Although she has also said she doesnt want Sky+ but wants to keep the box to turn into a FreeSat to save money on a Freeview box.
Can anyone advise the cheapest options for her please? Is BT actualy cheaper than Sky in the long run? I heared they were putting their prices up next month? Her current contract with Sky for tv, phone (line rental) and Broadband will dsiconnect at the end of the month on 29/08/2010 so she needs to act soon obviously!
Thanks

She should ask BT for a 'return to donor' connection. That is normally f.o.c.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Thanks for the advice.
Brother thinks he may have found Mum a few alternatives
Microtalk ( microtalk.co.uk/i_plan2.html )
or O2 landline
She's decided to just get phone only (not BroadBand) and a freeview box or Free-Sat from Sky card...
So are either of these any better???
Thanks

You can't get 02 Home Phone without taking (or already having) 02 broadband. It's not a standalone service. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Has she tried plusnet? I have been a customer (broadband for over a year and have just switched to their phone service as well and am saving £10 per month. Plusnet's service and prices in my opinion can't be beaten!!0

Can she go back with Sky just for her telephone and landline without being a Sky TV subscriber? She has said she only wants telephone now not BroadBand as it is only my brother and I who use the internet when we visit.
Thanks

In similar circumstances rathar than chase the best deal today I just picked a company that I considered most likely to keep prices low in the long term. Some companies are going to need or want to put prices up and as I do not want to chase the best deal regularly these were not for me.
Check to see if you can get cashback by ordering online something I forgot to do.0 -

Having re-read the thread and checked my own terms with my telecoms company unfortuately it does meet your requirements.
One thing I considered was past actions of companies for example which companies changed day time calling hours away from 6pm. As both sky and BT have done this it also would not help you.0 -

Her options would appear to be- Stay with Sky for landline and telephone at £11 per month. She needn't take any other services.
- Move to BT and get the same services for 50p more.
