Are roof bars easy to fit yourself?

I have a 2005 Renault Modus and due to its small boot size I need to get some roof bars and a roof box. Have checked Thule's website and that says there are some to fit my car. Having looked at the car though I really can't see where they will go, but I've never fitted roof bars before. The roof is bare and I can't see where they would fit. There is very little room between the rubber door seals and the roof, and there are no roof rails on my car. I'm worried I might damage the door seals or chip the paintwork if I do it myself - how difficult are they to fit? I could get Halfords to fit them but I don't trust them after a bad experience we had with them fitting a child's car seat!

Just make sure you buy suitable ones and follow the instructions and you'll be fine.

If you buy Thul! they are very easy to fit, and come with nice, detailed, vehicle specific instructions.

If you buy cheap bars (ShoddyPaddy Hopkirk springs to mind) then you are on your own!

    Thule

    Thul!,

How odd, when you put the accent on, it prints "Thul!" instead, give it a go if you don't believe me!

I know it's pronounced "Too-Lay" not "Fuel..." like a lot of people do. Even when I corrected people where I used to work, they'd insist their pronunciation was correct. I even had to call the suport line a few times so people could hear the prerecorded message saying "Thanks for calling Too-Lay"

The Thule website has the fitting instructions to download so you can see how to do it http://thule.com/~/media/Products/Classification_1_root/Image_Hierarchy/ImageFolder_175958/ImageFolder_177936/183091.ashx
Screw holes under the door rubbers.

It really depends to be honest, they can be easily fit but a lot of newer cars will have them fitted.

Most of the roof bars you have to put on yourself are generally easy to fit, I had a set on a Escort a few years back that you just did a tightening screw up at each end that secures it to the roof.

Best place to get a set of roof bars is eBay to anyone considering getting a set, as most times people are getting rid of them really cheap :)

I'd read that Thule were meant to be the best so I'd already planned on getting them, I've found a site online that is cheaper than Halfords so will probably get them from there, they've got a helpline too if I have problems!

And I didn't know it was pronounced "too-lay", I've been saying it wrong all week :o
