Oh, I;m pleased your councillor has got involved to help you out. I recently had a issue with Equita, it was over a parking ticket, the local council acknowledged my appeal and the next i heard was a letter from the bailiffs and apparently it had all gone through court etc. The council then denied receiving my appeal despite previously acknowledging it. In the end it was causing me so much stress with the appeals to the court etc that my boyfriend paid the £93 without my knowledge. I was cross at him at first but at least it's all sorted now. I was set on appealing against it and fighting it because i was sure i would win because the council messed up.

Just an update to say there is light at the end of a tunnel!!

Got a call off the council today, they said after speaking to te councillor they are havin the debt passed back to them, gettin rid of all bailif charges and have given me until end of September to pay it.

I am so relieved because I've been leggin it in the house with kids in fear of mr bailiff hiding round the corner. And as for the taking the at threat... All but scaremongering! I am still filin a comlaint against them as these illegal charges they are stickin on just to scare th !!!! outa people is not on.

Huge thanku to those who assisted me with their valid advice x

    EXCELLENT news !!

For anyone else reading this thread you may wish to note that when you call Birmingham City Council you are actually speaking with a "back office provider" by the name of CAPITA.

CAPITA are a well know "back office provider" and they work on behalf of many local authorities.

Nothing wrong with this you may think...... until you realise that CAPITA own EQUITA !!!
  • I have had problems with Equita over a Council Tax Bill which I am getting sorted thanks to everyone's help here. I've lodged official complaints about this firm with my local council, the Office of Fair Trading and the Financial Ombudsman. The Office of Fair Trading said this shower are members of:-

The Association of Civil Enforcement Agencies,
    513 Bradford Road,
    Batley,
    West Yorkshire,
    Tel: 01924 350090
    E-mail: dir-gen@acea.org.uk.

I have written to them to complain about Equita's threatening and bullyboy tactics.

Maybe if we all write in and compain, we can get these bullies (and others like them) removed from our society.
