Help me buy a new laptop!

If you're pushed for money I'd say your best bet is to buy an external keyboard which'll plug into one of your USB sockets (the oblong ones on the side of the laptop) and maybe get some extra memory. I'm an impractical incompetent but I found it easy peasy to fit new memory into my laptop.
This wired keyboard is £9.57 including delivery from Amazon.

Alternatively here's a wireless keyboard which will give you a bit more freedom of movement. It costs £20 including delivery.

As for memory if you click on 'Start', point at 'My Computer' and right click on the menu that appears then left click 'Properties'. In the box that appears look towards the bottom right hand corner and it'll tell you how much RAM you've got. Mine's got 960MB which is just right (for XP). If you've got a lot less, say 500MB, then you need more which will cost no more than £20.
However if you've got your heart set on getting a new laptop then go for Donnie's choices, either the Asus or the Medion.
Free anti viruses are often better than paid for ones Here's one which is recommended on MSE.

Agreed. If money is tight, we can just refurbish the one you have now. £25 or so will cover the keyboard and extra RAM.
Together with a clean install, it will run faster tham it did when new.0 -
