Accepting cash via Paypoint

I am looking at CredECard as a way to accept cash payments for ebay sales. You can email the buyer with a barcode that they print off, take to their nearest Paypoint, hand over the cash, and it's in your account.

Can't find any details of fees on their site. Anyone any ideas? The personal prepay debit card would be fine for me (as I just spend the cash paid in to it) - I'll be happiest with whatever is the cheapest way to accept cash without anyone having to post it. They have an optin where it is paid in to a bank account too. Either would be fine. It seems to have the instantaneous advantages of Paypal, but available to those who do not want to pay by card, and avoids troublesome cheques.

  • It would have the instantaneous advantages of Paypal... and all the insecurity of Western Union.

Sorry, but no sensible buyer will consider using this.

sorry, why is this less secure than sending cash in the post???

I only intend to offer it as an option for would-be cash buyers. I accept there may be more secure ways. If anyone is not happy to use it, then they won't use it. Not everyone has a credit or debit card - and some cash-only buyers are legitimate, and waiting for cheques to genuinely clear can seem like ages.

    Anyway, anyone know about fees??

Because you aren't posting to an address that you can trace your payment to, you could give a false address and they wouldn't know paying by paypoint. Any cash buyer can send a postal order, this can be done very quickly using first class post. My buyers either pay by named postal order, paypal, personal cheque.

Don't forget to check that your payment method is acceptable on ebay, if it is treated as requesting cash then it won't be .

Like th eothers have said though you need buyers to be happy using it, and i for one am a strictly paypal and paypal only buyer. It is rare indeed that any of my buyers pay by anything other than paypal.

Perhaps I should explain that CredECard accounts can be traced to an address as they are opened like bank accounts, credit checked etc on opening, and every account has it's own account number and barcode, so they payment are effectively linked to a unique address. It's just like paying into a bank account.

Does this make it against ebay rules then, to accept this method??
