Mobile phones? £45 a month, if you are not in a contract phone and speak to the retentions teams of your networks and see if they will cut this. Ours is £10 a month each and we both had a new blackberry not the latest one but it was worth haggling for.

Insurances - you have lots of different varieties? Have you comparedthemarket on them all? Time consuming but maybe worth a few £'s dont forget to look at cashback sites for moneyback

Also if you are at the hospital a lot speak to the reception see if they have a scheme to save you money - Our hospital does a alpha pass unsure of how it works but worth a shot

Multi room is a luxury ( one is in the living room, the other our bedroom ) and it's because if my OH is playing on his games consoles I can watch TV and don't have to endure watching him play on that! We've only got it a month ago so are in a 12 month contract.

You only need multiroom if 2 of you want to watch different programmes at the same time. If your OH is not using Sky when playing then you're paying for nothing. A 'magic eye' set up could have allowed you to control and view sky from your bedroom for about £30 all in.

if you "had to go the gym" you would get it free on the NHS as you dont try walking/ jogging around the park or even exercise by putting 50 pound coins one at a time into a large empty bottle each month

He can't go jogging due to the fact a tumor has destroyed a large part of the fibula bone in his leg so yes actually he does have to use a gym because of the equipment he has to use. We did ask his physiotherapist whether we could get is subsidized but we couldn't.

Thats why I kept saying he has to go to the gym for health reasons.

Bootfairs and ebay - great ideas - and great for de-cluttering!!

    I love doing both.

the idea about the sky magic eye is good - but I think you said you are tied in now for 12 months - so maybe something to consider for the future.

I do the NSD challenge and have found it so good and it has helped me save so much money.

  • To be honest I'm not sure how much the sky movies pack is either :o
Shall have to have a look. We do watch different programmes as often I'll go to bed and watch tv in bed and OH stays up.

The mobiles are contract, mine is £15 per month, OH is £30 per month as it includes unlimited internet usage ( or whatever it's called ) which he needs for work. When they're up for renewal I'm going to try to negotiate a better contract, though I'm not sure when that is so thats something else I need to look into.

We can't really change insurances as because OH has existing and ongoing health issues no-one will take us on ( or it'll cost us more ) so we're stuck with our current providers at the moment. One insurance is for Accident, Sickness and Unemployment and the other is for Life and Critical Illness. Car insurance and house insurance I do compare and make sure I get cash back.

We did enquire about parking passes for the hospital but again they don't offer that scheme.

Another reason I'm looking to save cash is OH is going to have to start going to Birmingham for treatment which is a 400 mile round trip. The hospital are looking into whether the trust will reimburse some/all of the costs as they are referring us but we aren't sure whether they will or not. If they don't then it's obviously going to cost us a fair bit as to begin with he's going to have to go down there once a week

What I have done (not sure if it works for anyone else) but I started doing the NSD challenge and what I have done (I check my bank every day!) is I work out how much money after the bills have come out left to spend each day.... and then if I don't spend anything I can carry it over until the next day.

In July I managed the day before payday to have £70 left, which was great as I had an expensive August with Mr Looloo's birthday and we had the little Loos for a week. Not sure how much if any I will have left this month - but the day before I get paid I will check and draw it out and put in my savings "tea" pot it may only be a tenna but it helps.

I am going to get on to Sky as I have heard of people saying to them that they are going to leave and they end up putting them on different packages and saving money - I think I am out of a years contract that I had so I will try and cut down there.

If you were missold the multi room package when the magic eye would have done you could ring and complain and get down shifted.
Also you could get a bundle for TV, internet and phone which would be a lot less. ours with Virgin is around £30 a month but new customers are being offered a better deal I think.

You are in a fairly good position at the moment. Your wedding planning is eating up a fair bit but it won't last forever which will free up a large chunk. Also the holiday - maybe save 50 a month and aim for a cheape holiday as a compromise?
I think by cutting down a bit in each category - ie holiday, entertainment, spends and by identifying where the spare money goes you'll be amazed.
    Good Luck
