Help!! Home insurance nightmare with address.

I have recently purchased my first house, and I am due to move in in a couple of weeks. The house is a new build and we are going to be first on the development. I have contacted the Royal Mail about our address as it wasn't coming up on their postcode search - now fixed.

I need to get home insurance for when we move in, and our mortgage provider needs to see proof of its purchase. I have phoned lots of different companies and tried all compare websites and almost all of them cannot find our address on their system. I am basically being told... Tough, we cant insure you without a valid postcode!

Two companies can quote us and the quotes are very high and not at all competative. I don't know what else to do. I can't be the only person to have ever experienced this. I am tearing my hair out, having to ring every company, waiting on the phone, just to be told no! Royal Mail have said there is nothing else they can do!

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks.

I would make an appointment with a high st broker and let them do all the legwork for you.
  • Will that cost me extra money?

You don't pay them direct, they get their commission from the insurer when they make a deal..

But I couldn't guarantee whether the quotes they get will be cheaper or more expensive than your own.

With their industry expertise and contacts they should be able to get you a good deal, but I obviously couldn't make you guarantees on that.
There are also some companies that deal diect only e.g. direct line (clue is in the name).

It depends how disruptive and stressful this whole activity is for you really and what cost you place on that.

but basically no you don't have to pay them.

Not having any insurance will cost you (as you won't be able to complete, so won't get the keys, maybe have to find alternative accomodation, maybe have apenalty to pay the vendor etc etc)
  • I know, thats why Im trying to get it all sorted now. The solicitor needs to have our home insurance details to pass onto our mortgage vendor. It is all becoming very frustrating. I dont even know who to call about it!

A local broker will be found in the phonebook.

Your solicitor might know someone to help. (Your problem isn't unique!)

I had no problems, just ring them up. I assume you have rang the Royal Mail to get your post code added? Check it's there by looking online.

Have you tried your mortgage lender, they may be able to offer insurance.
