I was an N.power customer but Just recieved a letter from Scottish power telling me they will be at my flat on 25th August to change my Electric meter (on behalf of N.power i presume), but i am in the middle of transferring to E.on and should be a customer of theres in the next week or two when the transfer finally goes through at their end. Shall i just let them change my meter anyway or should i call them and explain that i have transferred?

    Hi Kev

This sounds like a statutory meter change.

Meters are changed every few years to ensure energy usage is being recorded accurately. This work is carried out by the Meter Operator for the particular region regardless of who the supplier is.

If this is the case, there is no need to let the Meter Operator know we are taking over your supply as the change will still need to go ahead.

Likewise, there is no need to tell us of this as the info will automatically be sent to us by the Meter Operator.

Hope this clears things up Kev. Give me a shout if you need any more details as will be happy to help. :)

Make sure wen the meter is changed, the engineer leaves a card stating final meter reading on the old meter and the start reading on the new.

This may prove useful if there is later a dispute over the bill from one or other supplier, depending on who was the supplier on the day of the change.

Malc, I have to disagree with this statement as it has not been correct since 2000. The work is carried out by the meter operator appointed by the supplier to the MPAN. This may or may not be the old PES MOP. As an example British Gas only use 3 MOPs to cover the UK.

Totally take your point spiro. I was trying to make the distinction between the Meter Operator and the supplier where a statutory meter change is involved.

I agree, could have been clearer. Apologies for any confusion. :o
