How negotiable is the rate on Balclaycard Gold?

Hi,
I have built up a balance on a BarclayCard Gold, and cannot really get a new card to transfer it to as I'm out of work and have been for a while. (I do occasional contract work, which I bill through my company, and then draw salary or divi as appropriate, but mostly living from savings - not really good enough to apply for a new card).
If I could reduce the rate to something trivial, I'd do that, otherwise will sell some investments to pay it off, but I'd rather not as want to stay as liquid as possible.
My question is, what is the lowest rate I could expect Barclaycard to drop to? Current rate is 19.9%!
And if I raise the question with them, are they likely to re-visit my creditworthyness and drop me as a customer (or lower my credit limit) as a result? In which case I would be better off saying nothing.
Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance!
