it is a java complier, what does is compiles and runs your java program. so yeah this is virtually all you require to program java programsScottish proverb - "Never drink whisky with water and never drink water without whisky"0

The J2SE can come in two flavours. The JRE (Java Runtime Environment), and SDK (Software Development Kit).
You only need the JRE, which includes the Java Virtual Machine for running any Java apps. The SDK provides all the tools, compilers etc... for building Java apps (which you don't need as it's just extra space being taken up).

You most certainly don't. This version is years old and extremely vulnerable to nasty blighters such as Vundo Trojans.
You need the latest release which is J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 8.

Once you have updated your java don't forget to uninstall/remove older versions using the Add/Remove Programs facility. Your computer will still attract malware if you leave older versions of java on your machine.0

My fault, yeah J2SE v1.5 is the latest, not v1.4.2.
You can find everything here:

For those who are IT challenged though..
This is a better link..
