Need a printer for a 12 yr old?

Could anyone recommend some printers that would be suitable for a 12 yr old to use?

Its for my cousin who has just started secondary school. It will mainly be used for school work. So has to be able to print decent quality b&w and colour.

Don't really want to spend more than £70 at a push. Preferably with cheap(ish) cartridges ;)

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Try the Epson C64. Decent enough printer and should be cheaper then that price :) I would recommend Epson and (possibly even more) HP printers. Any for under that price range will do you the job - its just the ppm that differs largely. That wouldn't matter I don't think for a 12 year old's work?

stick with epson, but go for the C64 it uses less ink cartridges and if your little one is anything like mine they love to print and print and print, so compatable cheap inks are a must

    C42 epson
just check how many cartridges it needs perhaps one colour cartridge and one black cartridge
see if shops like markets or super markets sell compatable ink is a must or other wise you could spend a fortune

Useing less cartridges is bad because if one colour goes you have more waste for no reason.

Useing 6 cartridges rather then 4 is much more economical for me.

I have the epson r 200 six inks and I have the epson c64 two inks the epson r 200 sits idle due to the high runing cost because the costs of the cartridges, you tend to pay more for single cartridges than when you buy a set of them so if magenta went it would cost me more to replace one. with the epson c64 the cartridges are very very cheap less than five pounds for both (equvalents)

Sounds like you need to shop around more for ur equivelents tbh.

When I used to get them I cant remember the exact cost but it was somewhere around £8 for a whole set and this was a good 6 months ago.

I didnt have to have 1 of each colour I could just have 6 blacks if it wanted to.

If you have any computer fairs near you thats where I recommend haveing a look.

I do have a computer fair not too far from me actually. I will check it out this weekend. Never thought of that!

I was wondering how economical having lots of catridges would be, but just from checking ebay you can purchase 7 compatible epson cartridges for under £10 incl delivery. Sounds good to me. Will def check out other cartridge suppliers.

    Thanks everyone
