Company car and no claims...

Evening all.

I've finally recieved a job offer and one of the 'perks' is a company car; which is great as my heap of a car is on it's last legs.

I've never had a company car and have a few questions regarding insurance which I hope someone will be able to answer.

I've currently got 3 yrs, 9 months no claims on my (personal) car insurance: which I was going to get protected this year (in three months time) as with 4 years I would be eligble for "no claims protection".

I will be getting the company car in Sedptember so will fall 2 months short of the 4 years with my own car. Are month/years of motoring transferable from business insurance to personal? Or, if for example, I get rid of the company car in 3 years time and buy my own car will I only be able to claim "3 years 10 months"? (ie 3 yrs)

Sorry if this is a silly question,

Cheers

J

Most insurance companies will allow you to add the number of claim free 'company car' years to the number earned in your own car - just needs a letter from your employer's insurance company to confirm your accident record.

I did this when I changed from 10 years of company cars with 3 employers, back to cash allowance + run my own car.

Don't cancel your current insurance - you won't get anything back for 2 months-worth anyway. Earn the year of NCD and keep your renewal notice/proof of NCD safe.

Thanks for the rapid reply :D

Can I declare the car as SORN and still acrue those 2 months? (as it won't pass its MOT next month!)
