Hi,
I'm due to give birth in the next week (hopefully) and I was just wondering what I do about contacting CTC? Do I have to wait until I have a name for the baby and her birth has been registered or can I just ring up and say I've had another baby.

I'm pretty sure you need to be receiving child benefit for the child before you can get tax credits, so make sure you get that sorted out sharpish.
If you're claiming tax credits for the first time
If you haven't claimed tax credits before, you'll need to fill in a claim form. You can get one by calling the Tax Credit Helpline. They’ll also be able to give you an idea of how much you may be able to get.
You can claim Child Tax Credit for your new baby, and because they're under one you'll get an extra payment as well. Each family can only get one extra payment for a child under one - even if they have more than one child under one. So if you've had twins, you'll be able to claim Child Tax Credit for both of them, but you'll only get one extra payment for having a child under one.
It helps if you can give your Child Benefit number when you fill in your claim form. If you haven't got a number yet you should still make your claim then let the Tax Credit Office have the number later. This might mean that we take a bit longer to deal with your claim.

Ok, so this page says you don't need to be getting CB but I'm sure posters here have been asked for CB number when claiming CTC for the first time.
It's only a game

There is a space on the CTC form for you to fill in the CB reference number. I'm not sure what happens if you don't fill that in.
However - if you receive a payment into your nominated bank account for CB before receiving any paperwork quoting the CB reference number, take a look at the banking details for that CB payment - those details will include the reference number. I found that the letter didn't arrive for another 2 weeks after they paid me!:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

with my first child i phoned them and they sent me a claim form out ....filled it in and i didnt put a child benefit reference number ..had to send his birth certificate off with the forms .
Mr 2nd i just rang them up and that was it lol ! no birth certificate ..no child benefit number.
Maybe they check you have a claim for child benefit ?0 -
no you dont have to wait until you have the Chb, you just ring up once the baby is born.0

I rang and told them straight away. Didn't need to send anything - just added to existing claim. They can do further checks against other systems they told me.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

think you have to fill in a form for child benefit and send the birth cert, apparently you get the child benefit forms in the bounty pack you get in the maternity wards0
