ESA and alcoholism

this wont help about the benefit question, but is about the AA debate.
AA has a higher power or god at its core, but it does not mean you have to believe to go to meetings, the only thing they ask is that you are an alcoholic who wants to recover. I've heard to many people say they are not religious so carry on drinking instead which is up to them, but for me I decided to grasp the help and support from the people in AA without the higher power element. 8 years later and I still have no higher power, and I also have not drunk since my first AA meeting. My advice to anyone trying to recover is to do what works for you, but dont put barriers up to things you dont like, and remember that as an addict the easy option is always to drink rather than put the hardwork into recovery. good luck to anyone trying to recover and the people trying to support them. to those who thing its all self inflicted, you could be right, but if someone is trying to recover give them a bit of support:T
You make judgements about me based on.....nothing. You don't know me.0 -
I try not to be judgemental about these things. If someone has serious emotional problems and they unfortunately feel that their only recourse is to drink then they are as needful of assistance from "the system" as someone with cancer or COPD as far as I'm concerned. I know her fairly well and, believe me, she doesn't want to be the way she is!
Hi,
I have many physical and mental problems. I use alcohol mixed with Morphine as a way of controling what is going on in my head and how I am feeling.
I don't see GP's as being able to help as well as having a fear about what they will prescribe for me and how I will be treated.
I have been alcohol dependent since 1995/6. I too am a well educated guy, an accountant by profession.
Unfortunately because of my reticence to discuss my health problems or even admit to them to the DWP, I was told by them that I am fit for work. Consequently I now claim JSA, but dread the day that they find a job for me.
Also I will re-print what somebody said of me on the website recently:

Seeing the GP is totally out of the question. If you can think of another way - I will seriously consider it.

That unfortunately is how people and the State see it.0 -
I don't see why you won't see the GP and in actual fact don't think you should get any benefits if you don't get assessed by them. That goes hand in hand with getting the benefits surely?andyandflo wrote: »Hi,

andyandflo gets ever so confused - in order posts they claim to see their GP every 10/14 days!
I'm still trying to find the news report from when they shot and killed someone!Gone ... or have I?0 -
Hiya andyandflo,
Just wanted to say I'm sorry to read you've been struggling with the booze.
I feel for you.
I'm an alcoholic too, and fell off the wagon, having drank solidly to the past 3 days (haven't drank since last night.
Any tips as to how we can win against this Godawful drug?
I'm 37, and my drinking got out of hand in 95 / 96 too.
Hope you're having a relaxing evening.
Take it easy,

Having studied genetics to post-degree level, I too am of this opinion. 'Genetics' are used as a scapegoat by many. I studied one man who claimed he repeatedly raped his teenage daughters because he was genetically predisposed to (apparently, this was how he believed our ancestors behaved).
Not that this bares are relation to the OP's question, but genetically speaking, most of the population are (in lamens terms) identical and if the majority manage not to succumb to alcoholism and drug addiction I dont think genetical make-up can be used as a determining factor..
No way did you study anything to postgrad level. Your command of the English language is lamentable and anyone who claims that men rape because they are genetically predisposed to do so, does not have the brains required to do a PhD.
Here are the spelling and grammatical errors in just this post:
You would not say "post-degree" had you actually studied beyond degree level.
Genetics is singular - you use it wrongly, as most lay people do, as a plural.
You say "Not that this bares are relation to the OP's question". I suppose what you meant was "not that this bears any relation to the OP's question" No-one who was educated to PhD level would have such a lax command of their Mother Tongue. You come across like a guest on The Jeremy Kyle Show.
"In lamens terms" should be "In layman's term's"
Dont = don't.
There is no such word as "genetical".
I don't know you from Adam, but what I do know is that you are not educated to postgrad level.0 -

As I have said in my other postings - I have had enough and really now just want to live my life the best way that I can. I have no fight or strength left in me. If that means without ESA or DLA so be it.
Please see my other postings for the reasons, I am too tired and fed up at the moment to go through it again.0 -

It might help if you read Duncombe's post correctly - you appear to be responding to a different post!
If you are drinking at present, could I suggest that you take some time away from the computer? You are coming across a tad unhinged!Gone ... or have I?0 -

I do for Severe Chronic Pancreatitis only, at least once a fortnight.
I'm still trying to find the news report from when they shot and killed someone!

Yes I do get confused - all part of the medical conditions I have.0 -

Thanks for that. At the moment it is hard enough just trying to cope without having to think about the future - whatever that is supposed to be.0
