Best Current Account for an 18yr old

Hi all,
My Daughter is about to become 18yrs old and she wants an iPhone. She is going into her 2nd year of A-Levels and has a part time job with regular hours and gets paid about £300 per month.
As she will have to pay £25.00 per month for 18months for the iPhone we want her to have a Current Account so she can setup a Direct Debit for the phone bill.
Can anyone offer recommendations of the best Current Account given her circumstnaces above.
Many Thanks
Alfie

Welcome to MSE, Alfie!

As you really only need Direct Debits and presumably a Visa Debit card I would think that pretty much any of the high street banks standard current accounts would be fine. From the advice I've seen here you probably want to avoid Santander (and English branches of RBS which are about to be taken over by them)
You can take a look at the discussion on best current accounts: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/577318
If your daughter is looking to go to university next year you may also want to look at the student bank account guide so you can later upgrade the account without the hassle of moving bank and also having to move any direct debits http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/Student-bank-account0 -

Most of them require the account holder to be 18. Santander are the best on paper for offering 3% on the first £500 and £35 cashback. But there's plenty who have had bad experiences with them.0 -

in the first year of an undergraduate course, HND or nursing training (at least a two-year course), or a postgraduate studying a full-time course at university or college, for example an MBA or MSc (at least a one-year course);
She doesn't qualify.
She would only be able to get a basic bank account with santander as she doesn't have £1000 to pay in a month. Is she going to University next year? (Sept 2011)
Maybe consider this http://www.lloydstsb.com/current_accounts/early_student_account.asp
and an instant access savings account?War does not determine who is right - only who is left.0 -

You're looking at the wrong account. That is the student account not the 16 to 18 acccount (the one I linked to).0 -
If she's already 18 they won't let her open it, well they wouldn't when I tried at xmas time because I was already 18.
May have been the branch being arsey, they wanted just offer a basic account.
Apologies to you though atypical.War does not determine who is right - only who is left.0 -
Santander customer services are the most inefficient you will EVER deal with, they could even open a simple account for me i would avoid them, maybe look into hsbc etc.0
