laptop help.....

just lately my laptop keeps crashing and running slow.

when i switch it on, sometimes the internet page loads straight away and sometimes it does'nt come up at all and everything seems to freeze, so i have to take the battery out and switch back on.

a couple of times a message comes up saying my virtual memory is too low....i have no idea what this means or how to fix it.

i have done a disk clean up, and defrangmented it, always delete cookies and history but nothing seems to resolve it. checked how much free disk space i have and its about half!

when it the internet page does come up straight away it seems fine..

can anyone help?

Have a look at the Malware removal thread. Do you have up to date anti-virus, firewall etc?

could be a scumware infection. I've seen computers before where they get a critical mass of scumware & it ruins the performance of the machine

Do you have anti-spyware software like ewido, adaware, spybot installed?

Do you have an antivirus like AVG installed?

Do you have a proper firewall like zonealarm, sygate installed?

If so do you know how to update them & use them?

to change your virtual memory go into control panel->system->advanced->where it says performance go into settings then clcik on the advanced tabs and you should be able to edit the virtual memory. make sure it is not to low.

Check for malware, run https://www.ccleaner.com, and if you have 256MB of ram or less, double it https://www.crucial.com

and do you have 1gb free space on your hard drive

what do you suggest i set my virtual memory to? at the mo its......Initial - 192 maximum 384 pc
