Diesel engine re-start button.
Question for the car techies.
A few years ago my Peugot 306 wouldn't start. THe Rescue man came out and pressed a hidden button on the passanger side of the engine. He said it was some sort of re-start button. I cannot now remember whether it was a fuel shut-off or something to do with the battery. Anyway, by pressing the button/switch, my engine started again.
Can somebody please tell me what it was and where to find it?

I remember helping someone who had broken down on a roundabout in an old citroen diesel. There was a rubber hand operated pump type thing for ifyou got an air lock in the diesel from running out of fuel.It was somewhere near the bulkhead, could it be that?0

No idea.
What is the bulkhead, please? I am very blond when it comes to cars.0 -
The bulkhead is the metal wall between your engine bay and the inside of your car.0

it was probably the primer, its a small balloon like thing that you squeeze. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Thank you.
I think we need a blond smiley face on this thread.0 -
Initial problem was probably the fuel cut off being activated - typically a sharp shock like hitting an object though it has been known to trip if you hit a pothole. All the rescue guy will have done was press the button to reset it0

possibly an inertia switch. if the vehicle is in an accident this switch is triggered and shuts off the fuel....work permit granted!0

what he said it is the inertia switch that is fitted nearside of engine bay on 306.0 -
Yeah, for some odd, and pointless reason old Peugeot diesels have an inertia switch.
Should be pretty easy to spot.

Yep, that sounds like it.
I have located it. Large red button at the back.
So my car has it, but later models and petrols don't? That will save me time from hunting around on my next car.
Thank you all.0
