Sony Blu-ray player broken

I brought a Sony Blu-ray player from amazon in October 2008 for £192 and it has given up the ghost this weekend.
Is it reasonable to go down the not fit for purpose/has not lasted a reasonable length of time line?

You can certainly try, but don't expect them just to accept it without a fight. You will probably have to provide proof that is was a manufacturing fault by getting a independent report stating as much."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Well at least £100 to get a report to say if it's fit for purpose or not with no guarantee that they will say it wasn't . I'd just go and buy a new one.0

What's the problem with it? It probably would be easier and less of a faff to buy a new one, but it could be fairly easily self-fixableSquirrel!If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
It no longer plays any kind of disc and says 'no disc' when a disc is in the machine.
I've done all the updates, reset it, cleaned it (or at least tried to but it doesn't recognise the disk!) - it is well and truly broke
Amazon have offered me 15% of the price of repairs as a goodwill gesture as they said there is no evidence that there was anything wrong with it when I purchased it and I would have to prove there was something wrong with it that was not through my use of the product.
They replied fairly quickly but it does seem a lot less faff to get a new one!0 -
Sounds like the lasers have gone wrong.
You could well enquire how much a repair would cost or possibly sell it on Ebay as people will still buy items which are in need of repair.
I would even say you could possibly get quite a bit towards a new one.0 -
