Ay ideas please re: pc

I have a tower pc, the tower turns on (fan runs). Red light is lit but green one isnt. Monitor is displaying 'no signal'. Any idea as to what the problem could be?

sometimes there is a symbol that looks like a cylinder above/below it.
Sometimes there is a power light that stays on constantly.

Could be the graphics card could be the motherboard. Assuming all cables are on correct and there is not a button on the monitor for different inputs.

    There are two buttons.

Two lights, the red one has the cylinder graphic and stays on constantly. The green one has a light bulb graphic and is not lighting at all.

you mean red is light bulb... green is cylinder

    (had to nip out)

one light should be on constant power light...other light will be the hard drive should blink on and of on bootup.

if hd light is not blinking then good chance gfx card or mobo is goosed.

(i am asuming you have mades sure all the cables are connected from the pc to the monitor visa versa.)

NO red is cylinder and green is lightbulb. Red on constant, green not at all.
Checked every connection. Unplugged and replugged everything to make sure. Will have to decide whether to try and fix it or not.
    Thanks anyway.
  • a working hard drive but no power supply eh? sounds tricky.

I suspect you should post a lot more specifics about your machine (make, model, age, any recent changes - hardware or software) before someone can help you further... :)
    Friendly greeting!

Pretty sure that can't be a HDD issue, even if the hard drives were dead you'd be able to see the bios.

Issue is more likely with the motherboard or gpu.

Is there any chance of a more detailed spec of your computer.

Also, have you moved it recently, changed the ram, knocked it?

Anything that could short circuit or dislodged something in there?
