....and my car insurance has gone up by about £200! Thats after shoppig around too :(. I managed to get it for the same price as last year by getting my mum and dad to put they're cars on a multi car policy with mine.

I was really expecting it to come down this it was around £600 TPFT WITHOUT ANY NO CLAIMS BONUS. The only thing I can think of is that it's gone up because I made a claim against someone else. Someone reversed into my car without looking and they admitted full responsibility. I was told at the time that this would not effect my premium .

When Iv spoken to insurers about this they assure me that car insurance in general has rocketed. I'm inclined to believe this having spoken to other drivers, but surely it shouldnt rise by £200 with more no claims bonus . I'm 24 by the way and have had my licence for 5 years.

Can anyone clarify this for me?

Cheers.

When dealing with companies over the phone and they tell you something like this that has contractual/financial implications you should get them to confirm it to you in writing, as it is nearly impossible to get verification of such verbal promises months/years after they are made.

But as you know premiums have gone up, and a 30% increase isn't unusual.

TPFT isn't always cheaper than comprehensive, so shop around. If you are not wanting to make a claim for any damage you might do to your car, consider taking a massive excess on a comprehensive policy (eg swiftcover let you take £1000, irrespective of the car's value), and see if it's cheaper.
  • As I said in another thread my bike insurance went up 100% this year, and the best I could get was the same I paid last year with a different company.

Insurance prices as a whole could of went up, or simply I could of just been part of a introductory offer they used to get me with the company, and just hoped I'd renew instead of shopping around.

I can get fully comp with swift cover for the same price. Cheers, for the tip. they must not be on the price comparison web sites, I thought id tried all the main ones that are not on them too.

What is annoying though is that if I was one year older, Id be able to drive any car with swift-cover (so be it with minimum cover) on the policy. I will be paying the same price for the same policy but getting less cover based soley on my age. I hate this age discrimination :(.

Before you go with Swiftcover, do a search of the forums as there are many negative posts about them.

They aren't too well reviewed as far as service when it's needed.

However, if all you want is legal cover and don't intend to claim for damage to your own car, then this is of little consequence. And the savings can be good.
