HP deskjet 640c prints lower half of any typed line only.

Hi peeps
The odd thing is that it will print a test page fine.I have tried installing new drivers from HP and uninstalling everything as well as using a new printer cable, plus cleaned printer and used new print cartridges as well. The printer has only been used recently after being stored as new.I'm using Xp, so maybe as this is an old printer model, glitches develope. Any ideas welcome

The 640 is very old and is prone to the common HP problems that effected its printers when it was made. Be prepared for the printer to not pick up paper, print garbage and bang against the sides of the casing (cleaning does help but can be a pain). May be best to cut your loses and move to a newer model unfortunately.

sounds like a software problem of the program you are using, try this open up notepad type letters at the top middle and bottom of the page then print it if it prints then the problem is the software meaning the word processor or application, its not a printer issue its a program issue, the way I know this is that it prints a test page which means its fine, now try word pad or note pad

if you have the same problem with every bit of software on your computer then apart from deleting the printer and installing new drivers which I think you have already done, your resided to buying a new printer. if on the other hand you can print from notepad or word pad then your printer is ok
try doing a virus scan as a long shot

I am still perpex as to why it is that you can print a full test page, which to me if you still can print a test page in full then its a communication error if its a communication error this is usually resolved by clicking on your printers folder selecting properties and looking to see how its configured

if you can print a full test page then the problem is a communication one if your not familar with computers ask a friend to have a look at it for you.
if you cannot print a full test page then its a printer problem
