I've just had a check on the security running on my computer (Kaspersky 2010) and it mentions that it has detected 40 Riskware threats over the period of time its been running (since December last year).
I'm assuming it has put these in quarantine somewhere but can anyone tell me what Riskware is? Sorry to sound so technophobish...

Kaspersky decides what riskware is
Riskware will be whatever kaspersky chooses it to be, presumably the stuff that it catches! I don't think there is a "computer science definition" of the term, but I expect it may include viruses (of varous types), malware, adware, and varous invasions of multiple types. In short such messages are about convincing you that you have bought a great product, and that you should pay the fee to re-new at the end of your current term. Nothing wrong in that and Kaspersky is a recognised "good product". Nerds will argue forever about "the best". I happen to like the free products Avast, Zonealarm, and AdAware, but would never attempt to convince anyone else, other than to say you have a choice.

That's about the best definition! Kaspersky often decides that a particular system utility which I choose to use is 'infected' with some trojan or other. ZoneAlarm, or McAfee, or Norton, or <whatever> will probably not complain.Kaspersky decides what riskware is

However, for some other arbitrary pieve of installed software, Kaspersky will not object, but one of the others might well!
The answer is to know the software you use, and investigate what your AV solution regards as a positive...0
