'Newly' married and unsure who to tell.

    hey i am recently married too, i done think there is anyone we had to tell. i decided to change my name so i did tell people but there was nowhere that said we must update or tell them.

  • She won't need to do the bit I've put in bold as she won't be known by her husband's name - that's the whole point!


    But there may be some things which will possibly have her married name on such as her husbands pension and it avoids any confusion. So when I have had clients with a similar situation I would normally recommend putting the 2 names as I originally suggested.

    She doesn't have to sign using her husbands name as the signature on the will would be her normal signature. Also later on if she does need to use her married name for anything she doesnt have to change her will because it already states this.

    Haven't read the following article in full, but it tells you what to do regarding changing name (or not in your case). Basically you DON'T have to change your name so you don't have to tell anyone.
    Obviously there are legal documents (as others have mentioned) that would need amending to show you are married.
