Can somebody please explain how I configure my router's firewall to allow an external program to access my computer?
I am trying to set up an iphone app (StreamToMe) to play media on my home computer via remote wifi or 3g. All the program's documentation says is that incoming TCP traffic on the port used by ServeToMe (9969 by default) must be allowed through your router.
My router is a Billion BiPAC 7800N but I assume the setup would be similar on any router.

Login to the router then -
Click the Advanced link near the left of the page.
Click the Configuration link near the left of the page.
You should now see a new menu. In this new menu, click Virtual Server.
You should now see a new menu. In this new menu, click Port Mapping.
Input the info to map 9969 to the same port on your PC (you'll need the IP address allocated by the router).
You'll also need the IP address allocated to your MODEM by your ISP. This can change between sessions, so consider getting a dynamic name from dyndns.org.0 -
