Freeview Recording Problems

I live in a flat that has two aerial sockets next to each other in the living room and a communal aerial on the top of the flats. My Recordable Freeview box has an aerial lead that goes from the back of the box to one of the aerial points in the wall. For some reason it only works when you put a splitter in the wall. It has always worked fine.
Monday I got someone in to help with a Freeview problem in the bedroom. I couldn't get a signal. He managed to sort out a signal for me by putting a lead from the other port of the splitter into the other aerial point in the wall. That has then given the aerial socket in the bedroom some power so we can watch freeview in the bedroom.
Since then every programme that has been scheduled to record hasn't, in fact when it goes to record it says there isnt a signal then all of the channels go missing. I either reinstall all the channels again or take out the link and turn everything off and on again.
Can someone please tell me what I can do to make my box record again in the living room as well as being able to watch TV in the bedroom.
I got a 1 Way Plug-In Aerial Booster from Argos (cat no 534/4235 for reference) but that was pants so now I am scratching my head wondering what to do.
Any advice?

Not sure I follow your description fully, but one thing that sort of matches what your seeing is if the communal system is already split and amplified (it must be) and the signal level is too high for the freeview box in the lounge. Adding a splitter (assuming it's passive, not powered) will roughly halve the signal level, which may explain why it will only tune in with the splitter in place.
When tuning is under way, does your box show signal level and quality? If so, is the level at 100% or thereabouts?0 -
There has never been a problem with the signal with the lounge box until we had someone come round to help with the second box.
Sorry for my explanations i am not tech savvy lol.
The box in the lounge, if I link it up normally with the leads I can't get a signal but if I put a splitter in the wall and then link it up I get 100% signal. I'm not sure if the link that has been made for the second box is taking some of the signal strength but I used the booster from Argos and was getting no joy.0 -
Just reinstalled the channels the way it use to be, just in the living room and the signal is 100%, not sure if this helps. Trying to give as much information so I can sort this problem out0
