Hi
Just got a new netgear router and wondered if anyone could recommend ways of improving the range. Signal has to pass through three brickwalls to get to rear of house from point where internet point is.
I have looked at replacement aerials but not sure what to choose, how to replace aerial on router (is this possible) and am a bit confused!
A search on ebay showed a few options but I'm not sure what to do!!!
Any help available please?

Could you not simply extend the phone point to a more suitable place in the house, to give better wireless coverage where needed? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Thanks for your suggestions.
Unfortunately I can't extend the phone point as we are on cable.

Well you can actually, with some co-ax and some F conectors.
Examples here but it is very easy to DIY. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Does your computer display a low signal when you're in the room you're talking about? I had this with my Netgear router until I changed the router's transmit channel. The low signal was being caused, I think, by interference from other radio sources (wireless phone, TV Sender etc.).
After changing the default channel to channel 3 I have an excellent signal all round the house. Might be worth a try before spending money. Just log into your router and change the channel on the wireless options screen (or wherever your channel no. is displayed).0 -
Thanks Wombat for the suggestion.
I've tried it and there was no improvement so it looks like I will have to put up with it.

Hi splot
I have the same router andthe same problem. I've had this for a couple of years though and have been toying with the idea of trading it in for a Rangemax model. If yours is brand new can you exhange it ? .. might be simpler.. and cost efective once you add on the cost of some sort of booster to the one you have now. Oh and it will only allow channel 6 if using 108mbps.HLK
