Car Insurance Company won't transfer my NCD

Hi, I wonder if you can help me. I was insured with a company who wanted my NCD proof. This was for a policy starting June '09. My NCD certificate was from Jan '09, and for a different vehicle, which was taken off the road, then scrapped. The Insurance company said it was no longer valid. I thought NCD lasted 2 years? Also I was a named second driver on the car my wife had insured, from May '08, to 22 May '09. The clutch went on the car she insured in the May, and had to be brought home by the RAC. As it was almost due for it's MOT, we got it in the garage. There was a lapse in insurance for this vehicle from 22 May to 1st June when it was picked up, but it was in the garage during this time, so not being driven. I then became the main insurer of this car, which is the one for which the insurance company won't give me my NCD. I hope I have posted this in the right place! Thanks in advance, Nidge.
