Bathroom extractor fan ineffective at clearing moisture

  • Hi Cameron,
30 dba is when the unit is on boost, you also have to remember that the MX unit is actually situated in a void elsewhere from the actual room.
I have a genie mx in my shower room, and I can hardly hear it in the room, obviously its a lot louder when you are in the roof space next to it :)
Also if worst comes to worst you can always switch it off at the fused spur, (though i wouldnt recommend it as it defeats the object of having a continous duty fan)
    Good luck with it
    :)

The advice I give on here is based on my many years in the preservation industry. I choose to remain anonymous, I have no desire to get work from anyone. No one can give 100% accurate advice on a forum if I get it wrong you'll get a sincere apology and that's all:D

  • Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. I'm trying to choose between the Xpelair dx200t and the genie mx. The nuaire appears quieter at max 30dba but the xpelair is cheaper at only £55 and has an overrun timer and higher extraction rates at 30l/sec compared to 25. Only prob is it quotes 26-50dba and I'm not sure if 26 on trickle will be like a swarm of bees in the bathroom!
  • Hi cameron,
I've never fitted the Xpelair unit, so can't really comment on that exact type, however a lot of the housing associations I work with DON'T use Xpelair units,
The equivalent Genie to the Xpelair unit is the Genie X (not an inline fan, just goes on the wall) and I can buy one of those for £50 + vat & delivery
I must admit the xpelair unit does look a bit neater though
