We have a bottle stall at ours. In the weeks leading up to fayre the children are asked to bring in bottles of wine, beer or soft drinks. These are all given a ticket number ending in 0 or 5 (for example), and then a load of tickets are folded up and put into a bowl. On the day people have say 5 tickets for a £1, and any ending in 0 or 5 win the bottle with the same numbered ticket on. Obviously, if a child wins a bottle of alcohol they have to ask their parents to collect it.
This is usually a good fund raiser
  • You need to work on the principle of "What's In It For Me?". Companies are generally only interested in donating if they think they'll get something in return (generally feel good factor isn't enough). You need to look at it from their point of view and then sell the idea of a donation to them. Not always easy but once you've thought of a couple of ideas it gets easier.

Thanks to all posters, for the GREAT ideas.
Off to the PTA tomorrow night so I will be printing this out for everyone there!
I hope the PTA politics don't get in the way of our meeting!
Keep the ideas coming as ALL schools need new and fun ideas!

One that was done in our local area to death was a Beauty Night (this was one I went to before kids) You got a load of Mums who have a talent and local beauty shops (waxing, pedicure, manicure, hair, tarot, palmists, you get the idea) they then buy a table for a fixed price £15 and donate a raffle prize and sell there craft. The customers then pay a fixed price for there ticket (inc a glass of wine, and raffle ticket) and they go and have there treatment's paying a reduced price for them. All the organisers have to do is arrange a raffle and refreshments. A good money spinner for not much work for the PTA

    Thanks for the ideas

  • I am treasurer of ours, and do lots of the things above, (disco with loads of over excited kids was last week)..

We also do a calender that is a good money spinner - each child in the school does a small picture on a theme and then these are put on a page together - each class gets 2 months, calender is also printed with holiday dates sat dates etc,

They charge £3.50 for a calender no pressure (but last year I missed my parents out and got in big trouble), most people buy 1-3 to give as gifts with little freds own picture on.
We even have a company sponsoring the production of the calender (approx £100), so will raise more money this year

I also sell wholesale uniform to quite a few schools who cant get pink gingham dresses,/ school tights and other things, PTFA sell on and keep the difference

Auction of promises is one we are looking at for next year

Also cinema night as there is a co who will come and do a cinema night - they get quite a big cut of the ticket money, but you get some + tuck shop, and it should be a great family night (ours is booked for Jan)
