    My othr half works for BT and does get quite a good payout if anything happened to him. We did not have any dependants when we took the policy out as our son was 25 years old. The cover is decreasing term assurance.

    I would go for it then.

    Key points being that:

    1 - they sold you cover that you already have covering the same financial need.
    2 - failed to complete a needs analysis or ask about existing plans resulting in the sale of a policy you didnt need.

    Death in service doesnt normally get included for mortgages but is for family protection. I dont think you need to go there though as the above two points should be enough.

    I agree with DunstonH - on the basis of what you have said, you seem to have a case.

    They may argue that the CI was not available without the life cover (if that is the case) but they should then have explained it was an extra expense for cover you did not need but they could not offer the CI without it.

    They would not then have needed to tell you that, in fact, other providers can provide standalone CI.
