Lisyloo - I may travel charter, but I'm a First Class person at heart!
In that case (no pun intended) you've done it by the book and can now only sit back and wait a reasonable time before chasing it up.

I received a cheque in the post yesterday for £35. Apparently, although I claimed for £50, as the bag was three years old, they made a deduction for "fair wear and tear".
I'm not going to argue over it, but if they hadn't damaged it in the first place it would still have years of use left in it!
No more holdall type bags for me! I'm off to buy a hard shell type case!

I am surprised they gave you the cash, I had a decent bag damaged by British Airways, they filled in the paperwork at the airport and delivered a new bag the next morning by courier. I had to fight to get one of comparable size they were trying hard to fob me off with a bag about half the capacity of the one they damaged, mine was about 10 years old but in reasonable if somewhat shabby condition due to battering by airlines over several trips.0

Hard shell cases are great but do still wrap them with a tight strap. Learn from the experience of a seasoned traveller - if you overstuff the case it may burst its locks and spill the contents when being handled. Of course, if you don't jam the case full then you probably won't have any problems...0
