Buyer Stating Legal Legislation

Does anyone know "What Legal Legislation is in place to protect buyers buying from a private seller".
I know that if you buy from a business you have 28 days protection, but this is an auction from a private seller not a business, any ideas.
Cheers

I imagine you have only the protection provided by any intermediary (ie. ebay)... failing that it's 'buyer beware'.My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

'When you buy goods from a private seller, you may not be able to make a claim against them if the goods are damaged or lost before delivery. However, if the seller has offered you postal insurance and you have accepted, they will be expected to make a claim on the insurance on your behalf.'
I take it ebay's requirements override this.My TV is broken!

Royal Mail are useless, 1st they delivered a recorded item to a different address with no signature and 2nd time it arrived damaged. Now they put the shutters up and refuse to do anything, so reported to below
