Message saying pc has registery errors

Asked to hasve a look at mother in laws pc yesterday. Keep getting message pop up saying errors with registery go to a website and download a programme to fix. Is this spyware or a virus. Have installed spybot and NTL anti-virus and run scans which in the case of spybot identified threats and dealt with them however the messages are still there. Any ideas?

Sounds like a spyware problem. I had the same thing happen to me a while back. It's a bit alarming when these things pop up warning of impending disaster. But fear not. Check out the sticky on spyware/malware removal and follow the instructions.It should sort the problem out for you.

if you know enough about computers do a search for hijack this then look for any threads regarding hijack this dont worry its in english

you could try pc pitstop online scanner
make sure you download a good firewall, there are plenty of free ones available

If the trouble isn't fixed after that THEN post a HijackThis log report to this thread. We will give more specific removal instructions for whatever infection you may have.
