I'm just doing the monthly comps and have a question:
Why do the monthly/weekly threads get locked after a while? I posted at least 6 monthlies early on this year that are now locked and get posted each month in the normal bit by other people....and have seen a lot of weeklies in the same boat. It wastes lots of time when doing monthlies/weeklies having to search the normal bit to make sure they're not there too so I don't dupe.
IMHO if the threads in regulars didn't get locked it would make life so much easier. Is there a reason for it that I've missed because I'm still fairly new here??
Thanks0 -

I still don't really understand the monthlies/dailies/weeklies thingsome of them only get posted in the regulars board (e.g. sugarscape) some of them get posted on main and bumped every day, others get posted on main and never get bumped... Some are posted in there and then a few months later also get posted on main with people just saying 'this is also on the regular board but a lot of people don't use it' so they are duped in a way but are never merged. I just don't use the dailies/weeklies/monthlies thread as i get too confused by it
p.s. that doesn't mean i don't appreciate the effort that goes into the lists2008: £783.12 - 2009: £6,401.15 - 2010: £4,230.61 - 2011: £8720 - 2012: £2,041.89

Oh i've just realised that I do know the answer to your question though! Any threads that are inactive after 6 months get locked2008: £783.12 - 2009: £6,401.15 - 2010: £4,230.61 - 2011: £8720 - 2012: £2,041.89

I agree, it makes it very confusing and time consuming having to check both sections, I've actually given up with the regulars section because when I did try and go through it some of the threads in there are so old that links have changed, or the prizes are regularly changed but to get it updated we need to contact a BG so it can be unlocked and added to, it's a real faff, so after looking at around 20 threads I just gave up.
I also think the threads being locked makes the regulars part of the forum seem very closed off and selective, so very few people use it (you only have to read most of the reasonings for people posting regulars in the main forum, the majority say they don't use the regulars, and these are mostly the long-standing board members, if long standing members don't even use it, then it's highly unlikely new members still trying to get their head around everything would either!)
The great thing about the main board is that anyone can add useful information easily, so changed links, changed answers, changed prizes are posted into the thread and if people choose to read down the thread then all the information they need is there, I know there ends up being some posts that just 'bump' the thread for no reason, but if everyone has used the buttons to indicate they have entered then it only takes a second to see if you've entered previously when this happens.
I do think there needs to be the different sections though as not everyone works as things are posted as the board moves so quickly, it's hard to keep up, and regulars on the main board can be very hard to spot, so lots of people are missing out, which seems such a shame! There are also some posts on the main board where it's enter once, get entered into all the daily/weekly/monthly draws, but if posted with the final ending date, many people will miss all but the last draw or so.
Definitely needs some sort of clearing up and clarifying! Theres three options I could see myself:
1. ALL dailies, weeklies, monthlies going into regulars and being kept open for updating.
2. ALL posts going on the main boards, with seperate posts for each day/week/month so that end date enterers don't miss any
3. ALL dailies going into a regulars section (as they wouldn't be on the board for very long individually, and there's already been talk of things being moved over before they've ended) and at the same time, ALL weeklies and monthlies going onto the main board but being posted seperately for each week and month, again, so end date enterers don't miss any. (I think a week is long enough for a post to be on the board for everyone to catch it, barring for people on holidays!)
This way, everyone is catered for regardless of how you like to enter!
(Sorry for the long post, I'm a bit of a problem solver and like to think of all the options that wouldn't cause any problems for anyone!! :rotfl:)
Just quickly on a side note, one thing I noticed the other day under the 'Game Over' forum, it says "Please report all closed contests in the contest closed thread on the main board." *confused* Did it used to be the case when the forum was much smaller to have a thread which people posted in?0 -

Thank youbut I don't think that's the case here as at least some are ones where the prize is the same each month but the question changes so they were active at least once a month and still got locked?

oh then i have no idea lol! that does seem odd then and makes no sense!2008: £783.12 - 2009: £6,401.15 - 2010: £4,230.61 - 2011: £8720 - 2012: £2,041.89

I think it's very confusing and agree with bargainhuntergal that it needs clarifying so everyone works the same way.
Personally I like the regulars board...for me, one large post to work through is much better than re-posting regular comps each day/week/month as some will always be forgotten about and missed (as happens now as some only get posted ever few weeks/months when someone rediscovers them).
I know some people don't like using the regulars board but IMHO if it was decided that whatever is the way things are going to work from now and it was more consistent then more people would start to use it as entering the regulars would be much easier with less risk of entering twice by mistake. But that's just my opinion........0
